ANIMATION DIRECTION & DESIGN
WHAT I DO
I was around 16 when I saw Katsuhiro Otomo’s Akira for the first time. The same age as Tetsuo Shima, the antagonist of the film.
At the end of Akira when Tetsuo mutated into
an indescribable hulking mass of screaming, melting flesh
my brain melted too.
I had no idea what was going on...
but I liked it.
At a summer workshop soon after, a lecturer at the
local university showed me Akira: Production Report and taught me
the basics of traditional paper animation.
I realised then that animation was not impossible...
it was only incredibly difficult.
So with a brain the consistency of ice-cream
under an Australian summer sun, I thought:
I Should get into animation!
And now I'm here.
Since entering the Animation Industry I have worked doing
Visual Development, IP Development and Art Direction,
designed Characters, Environments and Props, drawn Storyboards,
painted Backgrounds for Cartoon Network and most recently
worked for Big Finish Creative and the BBC
Co-Directing and Co-Producing Doctor Who Fury From the Deep.
Please shoot me an email if you would like to discuss an animation project, commission design work or illustration, to ask about workshops, or just to say hi!
